Mr. Adam Martinez

Adam is an OSU Biology Major and has been working for over a year helping OSAC curate our Cicada Collection. In addition to physically organizing the collection, Mr. Martinez is verifying that the names associated with the specimens are those that are recently accepted in current classifications. He is also databasing the individual specimens so that online users will be able to search the specimen records via the internet.

In 2008, Adam was awarded the OSU Deloach Scholarship to use OSAC's new Visionary Digital imaging station to image representative PNW insects for use in the Zoology Department's entomology course: Biology of Insects - Z-365. You can check out some of Adam's Deloach Scholarship images by clicking here.

This summer, Adam used his curatorial and imaging experience to obtain an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates award through OSU's College of Forestry.  The REU is associated with the long term ecological study (LTER) at the H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest and is aimed at providing cybertaxonomic tools to provide direct connections between researchers at the station and the large repository of experimental specimens maintained at the Oregon State Arthropod Collection.  This project is still in progress - but is expected to be unveiled later this fall.
