Harold & Leona Rice Endowed Chair in Systematic Entomology

Dr. David Maddison is hired to fill the
Harold & Leona Rice Endowed Chair
in Systematic Entomology.
He will begin his position in the Department of Zoology in September, 2009. OSU's department of Zoology and the Oregon State Arthropod Collection is extremely excited about this hire. An important part of David's responsibilities will be to assume the directorship of the Oregon State Arthropod Collection. The current director, Dr. Stevan J. Arnold has done an outstanding job as OSAC director, and we will miss his leadership. Dr. Arnold will remain Director of the OSU Herpetological Collection.
Dr. Maddison received his PhD from Harvard University in 1990 and is leaving his position as Professor and Curator of Entomology at the University of Arizona. Dr. Maddison is a authority on carabid beetles, with a special interest in the incredibly diverse genus Bembidion. Professor Maddison is also the co-author (with his
brother, Wayne Maddison) of the phylogenetic analysis software packages
MacClade and
Mesquite. More details about Dr. Maddison can be found on his website: http://david.bembidion.org/index.html
