Photo by Piotr Naskrecki, 2006Taught by Dr. Christopher Marshall - the curator for the Oregon State Arthropod Collection, Biology of Insects is OSU's introductory entomology course.  Dr. Marshall has spent a great deal of time hunting for rare and unusual beetles in the jungles of Central and South America.  During this course he will share with you his knowledge of Insects as well as their natural history, evolution, behavior and anatomy.

This class incorporates lectures on insect biodiversity and biology with laboratories and field trips to introduce students to the amazing diversity of insects and arthropods. Students who complete the course are able to indentify most of the insects they encounter around Corvallis to the family level or lower.

Millions of dollars in research funds are awarded every year in efforts to understand the important role of insects in ecosystems, animal/human health, forestry and agriculture. If you plan to pursue a career related to any of these fields, you can't afford to ignore these amazing creatures.
