Adam Martinez awarded DeLoach Scholarship

OSAC Student Curatorial Assistant, Adam Martinez ('09) was recently awarded the DeLoach Work Scholarship to conduct entomological work in OSAC during Spring term 2008. Mr. Martinez has already been volunteering in the museum for nearly a year, helping us to curate and provide digital access to the Cicada collection (Thanks Adam!).

For the DeLoach Work Scholarship, Mr. Martinez is producing high resolution images of interesting and unusual insects from around the Pacific Northwest. We'll eventually have these images posted here - but the images are too large to be integrated directly into our website. We're working to create a infrastructure so that they may be viewed in their full detail.

Below you can see an example of one of Adam's images. It's a rarely seen, but spectacular butterfly that occurs in our area and has been seen in Corvallis. Below the full image, you can see the detail that is captured in each of the images. Adam is producing these images using OSAC's recently installed Visionary Digital Imaging System - purchased through funds from the OSU Research Office, the Department of Zoology, and the College of Agricultural Sciences.
