VISITING OSAC

TOURS: OSAC conducts a limited number of class tours or group visits each term. OSAC tours focus on insect biodiversity, evolution & the role of natural history collections in the Biological Sciences and Conservation. We do not maintain living insects for display*. Tours should be arranged ahead of time as they require preparation and can interfere with our normal curatorial/research activities. Space in the collection is limited such that we can only accommodate groups less than 20 people. Please contact the staff if you are interested in scheduling a group visit.

Preference for tours is given to children, classes and groups that are learning about insects or entomology as part of their normal curriculum.

Tours are provided free of charge, but donations to our Museum Fund, are gratefully appreciated.

*Teachers of K-6 classes are encouraged to contact the OSU Bug Zoo - an OSU student club devoted to insect appreciation. The BugZoo has many showy insect displays and maintains a sizeable living collection of insects and other arthropods that provides an up-close, hands-on arthropod experience. For more information or to schedule a bugzoo event, please contact their event coordinator: Michael Reitmajer: reitmajm@onid.orst.edu

Getting to OSU

Once on campus
: OSAC can be found on the fourth floor of Cordley Hall (in the SW corner). Cordley Hall is at the intersection of NW Orchard Ave and NW 27th Street. We are on the fourth floor in the SW corner.

Parking: Finding nearby parking can be difficult - and if you will be visiting during the academic year, we recommend that you stop at Campus Parking Services and purchase a $5 daily parking pass, which will allow you to park in one of the two faculty/staff parking lots directly next to Cordley Hall.

The nearest free public parking spaces (3-5 minute walk) are located across the street from the Seed Lab on Campus Way a block or so east of NW 35th Street, but even this parking lot fills quickly during the academic year.

If you will be delivering specimens, an insect collection, books or other large items, please contact us so that we can obtain an OSU loading dock permit. A separate parking permit is not necessaery if you will be using the loading dock permit.

Hotels: If you will be staying in Corvallis for more than a day, there are several accomodations near campus. The Hilton Garden Inn is perhaps the most conveniently located and you can walk to OSAC in 10 minutes. Further away, but more affordable are the typical chain hotel/motels. Or, you might consider the Hanson Country Inn, a charming B&B within walking distance.
