Visiting the Collection

Every year, the OSAC is visted by many scientists, land managers, insect collectors and interested members of the public, who visit in order to answer specific research questions or simply to be inspired by the specimens that are housed here.  The OSAC staff members work with these visitors to ensure that their needs can be met while protecting the specimens and minimizing any impacts on the normal operations and curatorial activities within the collection.  Given limits in our space and staffing - we strongly encourage individuals who wish to visit the collection to contact us before your arrival.

Researchers
are welcome to visit the collection from 9am-5pm M-F.  The collection does close throughout the day, and visitors cannot remain in the collection when staff members or a sponsoring museum associates are absent.  For this reason, we encourage people to make appointments to better ensure they will have an un-interrupted visit.  Researchers who regularly visit the collection might want to consider becoming a Museum Associate which allows for greater access priveledges.  Learn more about Museum Associates.

Teachers and parents of children who wish to visit the collection for non-research related tours are asked to check out information on How to Schedule a Museum Tour.

In general, we are closed evenings after 5pm, weekends and during university holidays.

Parking

The OSAC does not have designated parking.

FREE parking --  free parking is difficult to find around Cordley Hall during the Fall, Winter and Spring terms.  Parking can occassionally be found in and around Monroe Ave before 8:30am or along Orchard ave before 8am.  Free visitor parking (not very close to Cordley Hall) is also provided in the Softball/Soccer Sports Complex lot.  The lot is located south of the softball field in the vicinity of Western and 26th street next to the Hilton Garden Inn.  There is also an open parking lot located east of campus at Washington Ave and 11th street.

PAID parking -- unless you are visiting during the summer (when students are gone), we recommend you purchase an online visitor parking pass ($7/day).  After obtaining the pass, print it out, and display it in your windshield -- you may then park in any of the open spaces in the student/staff and visitor lots that surround Cordley Hall.  Even so, parking can be difficult to find after 9:30am - especially on raining days (which are NOT uncommon in the winter).
